If you’ve made it all the way to Alegria Beach, you’ve reached the northernmost tip of Siargao. Often called the "best swimming beach" on the island, it is the polar opposite of the busy, reef-heavy shores of General Luna. 🏝️ Why It’s Special While most beaches in Siargao are better for surfing or wading during high tide, Alegria is famous for its wide, sandy bottom and deep turquoise waters. * All-Day Swimming: Unlike other spots that disappear or become too rocky at low tide, Alegria remains swimmable and crystal clear regardless of the tide. * The Atmosphere: It’s a peaceful, 1.5-kilometer stretch of white sand lined with leaning coconut palms. You won’t find loud beach clubs here—just a few local kids playing and a handful of travelers enjoying the silence. * Safety: The waves are very gentle here because the beach is somewhat protected, making it the best spot on the island for families or non-swimmers. 📍 Logistics & Fees Alegria is roughly a 1.5-hour drive from General Luna. Ensure you have enough cash for gas, food, and entrance fees before leaving General Luna. * Snorkel Gear: Bring your own mask! There are small patches of reef further out where you can see colorful fish and occasionally sea turtles. * The Scenic Route: Don't just follow Google Maps blindly; take the Siargao Circumferential Road. The stretch between Pacifico and Alegria is one of the most beautiful drives in the Philippines.
