Seoul Immigration Office

All Immigration offices (especially those in koreae) feel intimidating at times, primarily because of confusing paperwork, communication issues and organization involved. I was struggling to get everything in order on time, but my clerk, Hanna went above and beyond to help me. She was efficient, patient, and supportive, helping me through the process when I felt stuck on my own. Thanks to Hanna’s help, everything worked out smoothly that day. I truly appreciate her kindness and professionalism, thank you, Hanna! My application was turned in on time only thanks to you!!

I visited the immigration office to ask about the required documents for applying for an F-5 visa since 1345 never answers the phone. The staff told me they had no idea and that there are over 27 cases, so I should just “keep calling 1345 until someone picks up.” This is extremely unhelpful and frustrating. Isn’t the purpose of this office to assist foreigners with immigration matters? Instead, the staff showed no effort or courtesy, only pushing the responsibility elsewhere. Seven years ago, my father left a review here saying: “Even one star is a compliment to these people since they show no interest in providing assistance. Your job is to help instead of pushing the work to someone else. Show a little common courtesy, Mr. Hong.” Sadly, nothing has changed after all these years. If this is the level of service we can expect, then what exactly is the purpose of having an immigration office?

It's funny that they don't speak English in the only place they should... I even got told: "We are in Korea, speak Korean!" Hello, government officials, I'm allowing myself this negative review, which is contrary to my usual habits. The staff don't speak English and make no effort. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I was coldly told, "You are in Korea now, speak Korean!" I want to remind you that this is the Immigration Office, the main point of entry for people who don't (yet) speak your charming, but so difficult, language. I'm adding one star because of the assistance of a charming person who tried to translate my requests to local officials into Korean. I want to reassure worried travelers that, with the exception of this place, Koreans are very welcoming, helpful, and kind! I would advise avoiding this place, but it's not possible...

You want to see the real side of korea? Come to thisb place. The most unfriendly people you will ever meet in this world. I dont understand why people glorify this country so much.

The staff is not kind, so please don't look forward to it. It's better to go with someone who can speak Korean.
