Temporary Residence

• Temporary Residence Permit as an Agricultural Investor

  The validity of temporary resident permits for investment reasons will be for a period of six (6) years, extendable every two (2) years.. Proof of direct investment in agricultural or aquaculture activities, for a minimum of B/.60,000.00.

• Temporary Permit for Educational Reasons

  This permit is exclusively for studying, therefore, during its validity, work is prohibited, except for professional practices and internships, required by the educational center. This Permit will be for annual periods up to a total of six (6) years.

Permanent Residency

• Retired Annuitant Residence Permit

  This permit may be requested by any foreigner entering Panama who is retired from active life and who earns a minimum income of eight hundred and fifty balboas (B/.850.00) per month exclusively from interest from fixed-term deposits in the National Bank of Panama or the Savings Bank, free of all liens or guarantees of any nature, which will be for a minimum period of five (5) years.

• Macro-Company Investor

  Foreigners who wish to invest in a company with a minimum capital stock of B/.160,000.00 per applicant, who are shareholders and officers of the company, may apply for this permit. This permit will be valid for a period of two (2) years. After this period, the applicant may opt for permanent residence. To include a dependent, an investment of B/.2,000.00 per dependent must be added, which can be justified by a local bank reference

• Economic Solvency for Investment in Real Estate

  Any foreigner who invests the minimum sum of three hundred thousand balboas (B/.300,000.00) in real estate and proves that the funds come from abroad may apply for this residence permit. This Permit will be valid for a period of two (2) years, after which the applicant may opt for permanent residence. To include a dependent, an investment of B/.2,000.00 must be added for each dependent, which can be justified by a local bank reference.

• Naturalization

  The Constitution establishes that the following may apply for Panamanian nationality by naturalization: Foreigners with 5 consecutive years of residence in the territory of the Republic if, after having reached the age of majority, they declare their will to become naturalized, expressly renounce their nationality of origin or the one they have and prove that they possess the Spanish language and basic knowledge of Panamanian geography, history and political organization. Foreigners with three consecutive years of residence in the territory of the Republic who have children born there, to a Panamanian father or mother or spouse of Panamanian nationality. Nationals by birth, of Spain or a Latin American State, if they meet the same requirements that are required of Panamanians in their country of origin to become naturalized.
