Expat in Croatia was founded in 2013 by Sara Dyson, an American living in Split. Read her bio here. It all started as a blog where Sara shared her experience with Croatian bureaucracy and the process of applying for residency in hopes that it could help others. In 2018, Expat in Croatia was registered as a company. Today we have a staff of 10 that supports content creation, research, account management, relocation assistance, consulting services and promotion.

Croatian Citizenship
If you have a parent or ancestor that is or was a Croatian citizen, then you may qualify to apply for Croatian citizenship based on Article 11 of the Citizenship Act. Applying for Croatian citizenship based on descent can be a bit tricky. Having an application that is prepared properly with all red flags resolved in the format the ministry is looking for can reduce processing time and increase the change of approval. The below costs are per 30 minutes and include VAT (25% tax mandated by the Croatian government). If additional time is requested, it is billed in ¼ hour increments.

Croatian airport-transit visa (visa A)
Foreigners who are traveling to a Schengen country or staying in Croatia for less than 72 hours can apply for a transit visa. There is no fee for minors under 6 or family members of EU or Swiss citizens.

Croatian short-term visa (C visa)
A Croatian short-term visa (C visa) allows a visitor to stay in Croatia for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It can be used for business, tourism, transit, private, or other purposes. The visa can be issued for one, two, or more entries.

Croatian long-term visa (D visa)
allows non-EU citizens to enter Croatia for multiple entries over a period of up to six months. To apply for a D visa, you'll need to:

EU/EEA permanent residents permits
EU/EEA citizens are eligible for permanent residence in Croatia after five years of continuous legal residency. They can apply for permanent residence at the police station or administration where they reside. The application requires Form 3b and a copy of a valid ID or travel document. A biometric residence card with a 10-year validity period will be issued to the applicant.

Digital Nomad Visa
The digital nomad visa in Croatia is available to non-EU/EEA citizens who work remotely for a non-Croatian company or clients. The visa is valid for up to one year, and there is no minimum stay requirement.
