FAQ

Where do I submit my visa application? Can I go directly to the Embassy?

No. Since September 2017, the Embassy of Japan in Jakarta essentially no longer accepts direct visa applications from general passport holders. All individual applications, tourist visas, and visa-waiver registrations must be submitted through the JVAC (Japan Visa Application Centre) managed by VFS Global (located at Kuningan City Mall, Jakarta), or through designated authorized travel agencies.

Can ordinary Indonesian passport holders still get a Visa Waiver (Free Visa)?

No, the Visa Waiver program is strictly exclusive to Indonesian IC/E-Passports (electronic passports). If you hold a standard, non-electronic passport, you must apply for a traditional Single or Multiple Entry Visa. For E-Passport holders, you must pre-register your passport online or through JVAC before your trip. Once approved, the Visa Waiver is valid for 3 years (or until your passport expires) and allows stays of up to 15 days per visit.

Does the Embassy provide fully-funded scholarships, and how do I apply?

Yes, the Embassy facilitates the prestigious MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship funded directly by the Japanese Government. It covers full tuition fees, monthly allowances, and round-trip airfare. Programs are divided into Undergraduate/Technical/Specialized Training Degrees: Application period typically opens between mid-May and mid-June. Research/Master's/PhD Degrees: Application period typically opens between early April and early May.
