D7 Visa specializes in Golden Visas and non-investment based immigration programs in Portugal, Greece, Spain and Hungary. Boasting a team of experts and a trusted legal supply chain, we have helped hundreds of foreign families successfully obtain EU second residency.
We are experts in the Portuguese D8 Visa, D7 Visa and Golden Visa, and work closely with leading in-country Golden Visa experts and real estate professionals in Spain, Cyprus and Hungary to serve our clients’ investment migration needs in these countries.
We are also preferred authorized agents for the Portugal HQA Visa Program and Portugal’s new Cultural Golden Visa.

While the D7 is frequently referred to as the Portuguese Retirement Visa, the program is in fact open to applicants of any age, from any country – as long as they are able to meet the program’s eligibility requirements. Provided that the above criteria can be met, the program is open to non-EU applicants from across the world.

As of 2020, the program has been increasingly sought after by long-term digital nomads, remote workers / telecommuters, affiliate marketers, crypto traders, online consultants, digital entrepreneurs and a host of other location independent professionals. In 2023, however, the Portuguese authorities launched a dedicated D8 Digital Nomad Visa to cater to these applicants, with the need for passive income again being emphasized explicit requirement under the D7 program.

But if you’re looking to move to Portugal in 2024, and you’re earning rental, royalty or fixed-rate interest income, etc., then the D7 Passive Income Visa could be the right residency program for you.

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to know whether you can apply based on your specific situation.

  • D8 Digital Nomad Visa

remote workers and digital nomads now have the option of applying for the purpose-created Portuguese Digital Nomad Visa (DNV). There are two program streams: The first is valid for up to 12 months, and requires applicants to earn a minimum of €2,820 per month (minimum wage of €705 per month x 4). For this option, you don’t need a Portuguese bank account, nor locally deposited savings. The second visa stream is valid for just 4 months, but can be converted into a 2-year residency permit, which is renewable for an additional 3 years. This stream’s requirements closely reflect those of the D7 Visa, however the minimum income requirement going into 2023, is also €2,820+ per month. You’ll also be required to have a local Portuguese bank account with a balance of €8,460+ (and ideally around €12,500+, even for single applicants).

  • Golden Visa

Portuguese Golden Visa by making a fund investment of €500,000 (real estate no longer qualifies). • Startup Investor Visa Program

Priced at only €150,000 excluding legal fees, the Startup Co-Investor Program is currently the cheapest done-for-you, investment-based residency option in Portugal. And with a typical processing time of around 3-4 months, it is also the fastest program of its kind. While Portugal has had a Startup Visa offering since 2018, it has been notoriously difficult for foreign startup founders to navigate the program. (And to comply with the quarterly reporting requirements, which have to be done by a startup incubator.) In contrast, the Startup Co-Investor Visa Program is a proprietary white-glove program offering, with everything from startup matchmaking and application submissions to operational management and statutory reporting taken care of. Given that the Portuguese authorities are eager to stimulate investment in Portuguese startups (and startups based in the Portuguese interior, in particular), this priority visa category is getting processed super fast – typically in as little as 3 months. And whereas programs like the Highly Qualified Research Residency Program typically feature a sunk-cost/fully non-recoupable fee structure, the Startup Co-Investor Visa Program involves a qualifying capital participation in an existing, pre-vetted Portuguese startup. Under the Startup Co-Investor Visa Program, this early-stage investment could lead to very meaningful potential returns in the event that the startup gains traction and becomes successful.

  • Portugal HQA Visa program

Priced at only €175,000, all-in, Portugal’s Highly Qualified Activity (HQA) Visa offers Golden Visa benefits and a faster application process (By law, applications must be approved within just 30 days.) There are no local hiring requirements and no revenue or performance goals to hit. You can be as hands-on, or hands-off, as you choose to be. Moreover, you get a back-up Plan in Portugal. You and your family can enjoy visa-free EU travel. And if you choose to live in Portugal for 183 days or more a year, you can qualify for the country’s highly popular Non-habitual Resident (NHR) tax regime if you meet its requirements.
