Sehwa Beach

Admission to Sehwa Beach is completely free, and the public parking lot nearby is also free of charge. Compared to larger beaches like Hamdeok or Hyeopjae, Sehwa is a smaller, quieter beach, meaning public amenities are a bit more limited. During the official summer swimming season (July to August), basic public restrooms and shower facilities are open, and local vendors offer parasol and tube rentals. Outside of the summer season, the public showers are closed, but the local cafes and restaurants just across the street remain open year-round.

Sehwa Beach is beloved for its peaceful, uncommercialized atmosphere and its striking visual contrasts. When the tide goes out, it reveals a mixture of stark white sand, dark volcanic basalt rocks, and incredibly clear water that glows in brilliant shades of cobalt and turquoise. It is also famous for the iconic colored wooden chairs set up along the seawall by local cafes, making it one of the top spots on the island for scenic coastal photography. Additionally, the beach is highly intertwined with local culture; it sits right next to the Jeju Haenyeo Museum, and you can frequently spot the Haenyeo (women divers) working in the waters nearby.

While the summer months are best if you want to swim, the absolute best time for photography and sightseeing is during low tide on a clear, sunny day. When the water recedes, the exposed white sandbar combined with the bright sunlight highlights the vivid emerald color of the water beautifully. If you enjoy local culture, planning your visit on a date that ends in a 0 or 5 (such as the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, or 30th of the month) is highly recommended. On these days, the famous Sehwa Five-Day Traditional Market opens up right next to the beach, offering a fantastic opportunity to try local street food and browse fresh Jeju produce.
